Future Sound of Trowbridge – 2025

The Pump are delighted to announce the return of The Future Sound of Trowbridge project in 2025.

Last year The Pump ran the project, which was funded by the Wiltshire Area Board, with unprecedented success. Unearthing dozens of young musicians, as well as supporting young graphic designers, sound engineers and photographers.

2025 sees the return of the project which is once again funded by Wiltshire Area board, but aims to expand its vision to give more opportunities to more young people.

Young people from the Trowbridge area can perform live, be it in a band, as a DJ or soloist, as a rapper or anything else in between, and be paid for their performance. The Village Pump Receives Outstanding Contribution to UK Grassroots Music Award.

We are delighted to announce that out venue The Village Pump in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, were surprised to be jointly awarded the “Outstanding Contribution to Grassroots Music” Award, when 3 of the team visited the Music Venue Trust industry all-dayer “Venues Day 2024” in London’s East End in October.

Attending the industry event at The Fireworks Factory in Greenwich on 8th October were directors Nicholas Reed and Kieran J Moore, along with principle promoter Simon Smith.

We are delighted to have been recognised for our contribution to the UKs Grass Roots Music sector. The Music Venue Trust works tirelessly to protect, secure and improve UK grassroots music venues for communities and emerging artists.

Since we took on The Pump in 2020 it’s just been one success story after another. We smashed our annual ticket sales year on year, our ticket provider WeGotTickets have informed us. This has obviously been a result of working with more famous acts, as well as establishing a reputation as an excellent experience for live music for both artists and the audience.

Receiving the award is an incredible amount of validation for what we do in our community. And to be recognised with so many other great venues, like the Cheese & Grain across our area is such an honour.

In December The Pump looks set to receive an Area Board Grant to run our next year of “Future Sound of Trowbridge” events, whilst also having just announced, and sold out Chris Difford of Squeeze, we can show that we have such range and appeal for music in our town.

With Trowbridge’s “Old Town Hall” set to reopen next summer, the ground has truly been prepared for future entertainment and cultural growth in Trowbridge.

The Pump receives Area Board grant!

The Pump Trowbridge CIC, aka “The Village Pump” can announce that it has been granted an Area Board grant from Wiltshire Council.

It was voted through unanimously on Thursday 18th January by the Area Board committee.

The total figure granted was £3,000, to be spent on venue technical upgrades and the delivery of the second “Future Sound of Trowbridge” project.

This means that “The Future Sound of Trowbridge” returns in 2024. After a successful run in 2023 the youth focused project successfully delivered 4 events at The Pump in Trowbridge. The 2024 edition raises the number of events from 4 to 6, and will deliver a wider range of support to youths in the Trowbridge area.

With this funding, The Pump will be able to invest in the skill and passion of local people with paid opportunities, anchored around an established community with a shared love for live music.

So far, The Pump has been able to sign up prospective lighting engineer Archie, a budding photographer & videographer Kiesha and sound engineers Megan & Lydia.

We are still looking for prospective graphic designers / illustrators to design posters and crucially, MUSICIANS!

There is no limit to the style, genre or ability; what is key is a desire to get out of bedrooms and be involved in making Trowbridge a vibrant, connected and exiting place to live, as well as express your music in a professional setting.

National Lottery United By Music tour!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that The Pump has been approached by the Music Venue Trust to be supported for some of our Grass Roots music shows.

The National Lottery sponsored “United By Music” tour has rolled out across the country since May 2023, and The Pump has been highlighted for its hard work and dedication to original live music, to be awarded a small grant to continue running it’s roots live music gigs.

You can find out more about  the tour here; https://www.national-lottery.co.uk/united-by-music .

The original roots acts performing for The Pump will be the Hayden Lloyd band, whose nod to Jimmy Hendrix cannot be ignored! Supported by a pair of new hometown songwriters, Ella Clayton – who recently played a breathtaking busk-slot at Trowbridge Festival and young teen Liv Thorndale. Singer Liv will be accompanied by Ella, who will play guitar.

All three of these acts will be performing at part of the Future Sound Of Trowbridge scheme, where The Pump is highlighting the talent within our community!

The way that the United By Music scheme works is that every ticket holder gets to bring a +1 guest for free, to their chosen event. This is a great way to make music more accessible, possibly bringing live music to those who woudn’t necessarily seek it out or just a cheap way of getting friends together.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to come and be part of the vibrant community we have growing in Trowbridge, the choice is yours – With so much on offer you cannot go wrong!

The Pump are delighted to announce that the long standing and rather underground Ukulele club in Trowbridge will be making the switch from Trowbridge Town Hall to The Pump in the summer!

The group who meets weekly on Tuesdays, will be leaving the Town Hall, in part due of the continued restoration works as it begins to kick in. There are approximately 15 people in the group, ranging from beginners to experts but all are enthusiasts!

The Pump announce partnership Spring/Summer cleaning days!!

The Pump are delighted to announce that we have partnered with The Princes Trust and their Inner Flame project in Trowbridge to give 7 of their current crop of advocates, work experience and opportunities in their local community.

They have offered to fund raise and donate their time and energy to their end-of-project goal, which will take the shape of assisting a much needed make over and deep clean of our live music performance venue!

We intend to take out all the old furniture and give it a thoroughly good clean, whilst fixing any breaks and knocks. Hoover all the nooks and crannies, damp seal some stone work, prime and paint some walls, update the foyer, back wall weeding and re-pointing, gutter clearing, fire escape clearing and making safe again, updating of signage, light bulbs and chalk boards, cleaning of windows, erection of a projector screen, installation of a new stage and a new PA, and a whole lot more besides.

Those wishing to assist can e-mail , you’d be more than welcome.

The cleaning days are scheduled to occur on Monday 30th May until Wednesday 1st June. Starting at approximately 10am each day and finishing at 3pm.

For 3 days we intend to completely update the space and make it feel more welcoming than ever before!

A grand -reopening event will be hosted in due course, where we will invite back all our old patrons & special guests to see the space. This *should* coincide with an update on our lease situation too, meaning we can celebrate the future of The Pump, and its role within our community.

Inner Flame will be doing their own end-of-project presentation evening on Wednesday 20th July to celebrate the end of their project.

**UPDATE** Sunday 5th June.

Inner Flame have now completed their work, and the venue is looking in great shape again. There is still work to do, as we’re also looking at updating the Green Room too.

We do have more opportunities for people to be involved, drop us an e-mail and we’ll keep you up to date.
