Jim Burke, known professionally as Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer, is a British parodist who performs ‘chap hop’ — hip hop delivered in a received pronunciation accent.
Dazzling with debonair dignity, Mr.B takes to the stage with his banjolele and stiff upper lip to perform ditties of pipe-smoking, high society, cricket and sexual misadventure, as well as some more well-known pieces from the world of hip-hop, pop, rock and acid ragtime re-worked in true Chap-Hop fashion.
His new album ‘B-Curious’ has just been released on his own Cheam Beat label. Which includes the track ‘Eat, Sleep, Apologies, Repeat’ which in true Mr B style is performed in a received pronunciation.
Perhaps his best-known track, ‘Straight Out of Surrey’, is a parody of N.W.A’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and purports to show the extent of his cricket knowledge.
Mr.B has taken Chap-Hop all over the world, from Glastonbury to Tokyo, New York to the Edinburgh Fringe. The Tweed Revolution continues apace!
